100 Word Challenge for GrownUps #35

The new prompt for this week's challenge is
...the red box...
Details are here

The first one.

Donning carefully chosen clothing, she took greater care than usual. Silken hose were eased with close attention over toe and ankle. The silken lining of the suit whispered as she slid it on. Ensuring all buttons were fastened and seams straight she studied her reflection.  At last, her time had come, not only her time, but a time of triumph for her sex. Ready, she strode down the stairs with determination. Grasping the red box, she opened the front door. A bank of flashing cameras and a chorus of voices met her.
“ Ready for your first budget then darlin’...? ”

100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups #34

This week we go back to a word prompt:-
…but I turned it off….
Many a slip...
The cremated remains of the ironing board cover lay in mute accusation.
She cried “... but I turned it off.”
The culprit lay on her back, licking her paws in a nonchalant way. Only she knew a careless paw had caught the antiquated socket switch. Those ‘oh so chic, brass sockets’ had proved why they were largely obsolete. The ball shaped ending to the switch caught neatly between sliding toe and pad.
The culprit had no idea of the carnage she had so nearly caused.
It was fortunate that the achingly gorgeous chintz cover had disguised a boring metal board.

Beginning my life in the country...

Wow, wow and wow! We knew the setting of our new home was good. Today it has revealed itself as amazing. We went out for a walk to deliver a letter and met a lovely lady. We had been looking across the valley on the other side of the road, watching a hot air balloon. There were lambs a few fields away, and we watched as they frolicked about. The lady, C, suggested we went on the gated road which runs from the Lower part of our village across to the nearby Cow Pasture wood. As it was such a glorious afternoon, we headed out straight away. It was very worth it. The road runs through a little hidden valley, looking for all the world like a tiny part of the Dales or the Peak District. The ewes and their lambs were quite unfazed by us. Some of the lambs have reached the charging around in gangs stage, and were doing just that. The lambs are all different colours, some white, some spotted, all entirely gorgeous. The stream which flows from the bottom of the field at the back of our house, is more developed along the gated road. It has cut a minature gorge and there is also an ancient sheep wash. Above the valley to the east, the vestiges of ridge and furrow cultivation can clearly be seen.
The move was very stressful but the result is entirely worthwhile. When I turn off the road from the city, through the stone built town, and on into the countryside, my souls sings a song of exultation. Home, I am home.

100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups #33

I'm back. Writing again. I have missed it.
This is the latest 100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups.

Piece by piece, the sea offered up parts smoothed by its own white horses.  Each limb carved by sand, shell and wave.  She gathered them with love. She wired and wove. She created joints for shoulders, fetlock and cannon as limber as a racehorse.  She chose with care, intertwining, creating curves with care and precision.  A proud head took shape, noble and inquisitive. She gave her creation a jauntily turned leg, imagined movement, where there was none.
At last it stood.
A most wonderful sculpture.
A gift to the world, gathered from the ocean.
A  creature for the new Eden.
